Target intelligence / Profile preview
Insulin-like growth factor-like family member 2 (IGFL2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19, member of a small family (the IGFL family) that bears structural homology to the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) family but is distinct from canonical IGF ligands and binding proteins. IGFL2 protein consists of approximately 100 amino acids and contains 11 conserved cysteines, including two CC motifs. Although the exact molecular function remains incompletely characterized, IGFL2 is consistently upregulated in several cancer types and is associated with worse prognosis. Expression and mechanistic studies imply a role in cell signaling, metabolism, immune cell infiltration, and cancer biology. IGFL2 and its antisense long non-coding RNA (IGFL2-AS1) participate in regulatory axes affecting cell proliferation and tumor progression. To date, IGFL2 is emerging as a potential therapeutic target and cancer biomarker, but no specific drugs targeting it are clinically available
Not established for drugs; suggested to be involved in signaling and metabolism, possibly influencing immune cell infiltration and JAK/STAT/inflammatory pathways in cancer contexts
