Insulin-like growth factor type 1 receptor (IGF-1R) is a transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase that mediates the actions of IGF-1, IGF-2, and, to a lesser extent, insulin. Upon ligand binding, the receptor undergoes autophosphorylation, triggering downstream signaling pathways that regulate cell proliferation, survival, differentiation, and metabolism. It plays a crucial role in somatic growth and protects cells from apoptosis. Dysregulation or overexpression is linked to tumorigenesis and cancer cell survival.
