Insulin Receptor A (IR-A) is a transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase and one of two isoforms of the insulin receptor. Generated by alternative splicing of the INSR gene (excluding exon 11), IR-A exhibits higher affinity for IGF-II and is predominantly expressed during fetal development and in certain cancer cells. It mediates both metabolic and mitogenic responses to insulin and related growth factors.
