Insulin Receptor Beta Subunit (INSR Beta)

Target
INSR Beta
Molecular classification
Receptor Tyrosine Kinase, Transmembrane Protein, Glycoprotein
01

Overview

The insulin receptor beta subunit is a transmembrane protein that is part of the insulin receptor complex. It possesses intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity and is essential for mediating insulin's effects on glucose homeostasis and metabolism. Upon insulin binding to the alpha subunit, the beta subunit undergoes autophosphorylation, initiating downstream signaling cascades that regulate glucose uptake, glycogen synthesis, and other metabolic processes. Dysfunction or mutations in the beta subunit can contribute to diseases like diabetes mellitus and cancer.
