Leucyl/cystinyl aminopeptidase (LNPEP) is a zinc-dependent metalloaminopeptidase that cleaves N-terminal amino acids, especially leucine and cysteine, from peptide substrates. It degrades several peptide hormones including oxytocin, vasopressin, angiotensin III, lys-bradykinin, met-enkephalin, and dynorphin A. It plays important roles in hormone regulation, antigen processing, blood pressure regulation, and signal transduction. It is a type II transmembrane protein found in multiple cellular compartments.
Hydrolyzes N-terminal amino acids, particularly leucine and cysteine, from peptides and proteins.
