Integral membrane protein 2C is a 30.5 kDa BRICHOS domain-containing transmembrane protein involved in the negative regulation of amyloid-beta peptide production, likely by inhibiting amyloid precursor protein (APP) access to alpha- and beta-secretases. This function is relevant to Alzheimer’s disease pathology. ITM2C is also implicated in processes such as neuron differentiation, negative regulation of neuron projection development, and may play a role in TNF-induced cell death. Clinically, ITM2C serves as a prognostic marker for select cancers. It is primarily expressed in the brain and certain other tissues
