Overview

Integrator complex subunit 6 pseudogene 1 (INTS6P1) is a long non-coding RNA pseudogene closely homologous to the protein-coding INTS6 gene, sharing high sequence similarity. INTS6P1 does not encode a protein but functions as a competitive endogenous RNA within gene regulatory networks. It is tightly linked to tumor suppression in hepatocellular carcinoma, where it regulates the expression of INTS6 by competitively binding the oncogenic microRNA miR-17-5p. Experimental data indicate it is significantly downregulated in HCC and is being explored as a plasma-based biomarker for early detection of liver cancer. There are no known therapeutic drugs targeting INTS6P1, and it is functionally classified as a pseudogene and biomarker rather than a conventional receptor, enzyme, or drug target.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable for drugs, but as a ceRNA, INTS6P1 modulates gene expression by competitively binding miR-17-5p, which in turn regulates the functional INTS6 gene

03

Biological functions

Post-transcriptional regulation of gene (INTS6)Modulates tumor suppressor pathways via competitive binding to microRNA (miR-17-5p)Regulation of cell growth, migration, and survival in HCC

Disease associations

Cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma)Tumor suppressionOther (biomarker)
05

Safety considerations

None known. Since INTS6P1 is a pseudogene RNA used as a biomarker, there are no direct safety concerns or therapeutic liabilities reported
06

Biomarkers

Plasma level of INTS6P1 is considered a promising biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) screening, especially in patients with low AFP values
