Integrin α7β1 is a heterodimeric transmembrane receptor composed of the alpha-7 (ITGA7) and beta-1 (ITGB1) subunits. It functions as a major laminin-binding integrin, primarily expressed in skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle tissues. This integrin plays critical roles in cell-matrix interactions, muscle development, regeneration, and maintenance of tissue integrity. Loss or mutation leads to muscular dystrophy phenotypes. Enhanced expression can compensate for loss of dystrophin-mediated linkage as seen in Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
