Integrin alpha-L (CD11a)

Target
CD11a
Molecular classification
Integrin, Type I transmembrane glycoprotein, Cell surface receptor
01

Overview

Integrin alpha-L (CD11a, ITGAL) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that forms a heterodimer with integrin beta-2 (CD18) to create the LFA-1 complex. LFA-1 is expressed on all leukocytes and mediates cell-cell adhesion by binding to ICAMs on endothelial and immune cells. This interaction is crucial for leukocyte trafficking, immune cell activation, and cell-mediated cytotoxicity. Targeting CD11a can modulate immune responses, but it carries the risk of significant immunosuppression.
