Overview

Integrin alpha-V beta-1 (αVβ1) is a heterodimeric transmembrane receptor that mediates cell adhesion and signaling between cells and the extracellular matrix. It is composed of alpha-V (ITGAV) and beta-1 (ITGB1) subunits. αVβ1 recognizes ligands containing the RGD motif, including vitronectin, fibronectin, and osteopontin. It plays key roles in cell adhesion, migration, signal transduction, embryogenesis, tissue repair, and angiogenesis. Compared to other fibronectin receptors, αVβ1 binds fibronectin with lower affinity, facilitating dynamic attachment/detachment during cell migration. It serves as an entry receptor for some viruses and is involved in tumor progression/metastasis.
