Overview

Integrin alpha V beta 3 receptor is a heterodimeric transmembrane protein composed of alpha V (CD51) and beta 3 (CD61) subunits[1][2][4][7]. It functions as an adhesion receptor for extracellular matrix proteins, especially vitronectin and fibronectin, by recognizing the RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) sequence on these ligands[1][2][7]. αVβ3 plays a critical role in cell adhesion, migration, signal transduction, and angiogenesis, with high expression on endothelial cells and osteoclasts[1][4][7]. It is involved in bone resorption, tumor cell invasiveness, and is an established therapeutic target in cancer, osteoporosis, and angiogenesis-related disorders[1][4][7]. Several viral pathogens utilize αVβ3 for cell entry[2][8]. Blocking αVβ3 is under investigation for its anti-angiogenic and anti-metastatic therapeutic potentials[7][9].
