Overview

Integrin alpha-V beta1 (αVβ1) is a heterodimeric transmembrane receptor composed of the integrin alpha V (ITGAV) and integrin beta 1 (ITGB1) subunits. It mediates cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix (ECM), playing roles in cellular signaling, migration, and tissue organization. It primarily binds ECM proteins containing the RGD motif, including vitronectin, fibronectin, and osteopontin. While it functions as a fibronectin receptor, it does not support robust fibronectin matrix assembly or efficient cell migration on fibronectin compared to α5β1. αVβ1 is involved in processes such as angiogenesis, wound healing, tissue repair, embryogenesis, immune response modulation, and potentially tumor metastasis.
