Integrin alpha-V beta6 (αvβ6)

Target
αvβ6
Molecular classification
Integrin, Cell Surface Receptor
01

Overview

Integrin alpha-V beta6 (αvβ6) is a heterodimeric cell surface receptor composed of the αv (CD51) and β6 subunits. It mediates cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions and is primarily expressed on epithelial cells, with upregulation during tissue remodeling, wound healing, fibrosis, inflammation, and cancer. Its main function is activation of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1), regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, angiogenesis, EMT, and immune suppression. It binds to fibronectin, tenascin C, and the latency-associated peptide (LAP) of TGF-beta. Due to its restricted expression and involvement in disease, it's a promising therapeutic target in cancer and fibrotic diseases.
