Integrin alpha2beta1 (VLA-2)

Target
VLA-2
Molecular classification
Integrin, Receptor
01

Overview

Integrin alpha2beta1, also known as VLA-2, is a heterodimeric transmembrane receptor composed of the α2 (CD49b) and β1 (CD29) subunits. It functions primarily as a collagen receptor, mediating cell adhesion to various types of collagen in the extracellular matrix. It plays a role in cell migration, costimulation of T cells, and resistance to apoptosis. It is implicated in autoimmune diseases, inflammation, and tumor metastasis.
