Integrin alpha4 beta7 (α4β7), also known as LPAM-1, is a heterodimeric cell surface receptor that plays a crucial role in lymphocyte homing to gut-associated lymphoid tissue. It is composed of alpha 4 (CD49d) and beta 7 subunits. The primary ligand for α4β7 is MAdCAM-1, expressed on endothelial cells of the gut. α4β7 is a therapeutic target for inflammatory bowel diseases, and antibodies against it are used clinically to block lymphocyte trafficking to the gut.
