Overview
Integrin alpha4beta1 (VLA-4) is a heterodimeric cell surface receptor composed of the alpha 4 subunit (CD49d) and the beta 1 subunit (CD29). It is primarily expressed on most leukocytes (except neutrophils) and mediates leukocyte adhesion to vascular endothelium and ECM, playing a crucial role in inflammation, immune responses, and stem cell homing. It is a therapeutic target for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
