Integrin alphaEbeta7 (αEβ7)

Target
αEβ7
Molecular classification
Integrin, Cell Surface Receptor
01

Overview

Integrin alphaEbeta7 (αEβ7) is a heterodimeric cell surface receptor belonging to the integrin family. It is composed of alpha E (CD103, encoded by ITGAE) and beta 7 (encoded by ITGB7) subunits. This integrin is primarily expressed on T lymphocytes, especially those residing in mucosal tissues. It facilitates retention of T lymphocytes within epithelial layers through binding to E-cadherin, maintaining immune surveillance. αEβ7 expression is often increased during inflammatory conditions. Monoclonal antibodies targeting β7 or blocking αEβ7-E-cadherin interactions are under investigation for treating diseases like IBD.
