ITGAV

Overview

Integrin alphaV, encoded by the ITGAV gene, is a key member of the integrin family, which are heterodimeric transmembrane receptors involved in cell adhesion, migration, and signal transduction. It pairs with several beta subunits (β1, β3, β5, β6, and β8) to form distinct receptors with different tissue distributions and ligand specificities. AlphaV-containing integrins mediate cell adhesion to ECM components and regulate angiogenesis, tumor invasion/metastasis, and other biological processes. They recognize ligands containing an RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) motif and are targets for anti-cancer therapies aimed at inhibiting tumor growth or metastasis.
