Integrin alphaVbeta1 is a heterodimeric transmembrane receptor composed of the integrin alpha V (ITGAV) and beta 1 (ITGB1, also known as CD29) subunits. Integrins are cell surface receptors that mediate cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix (ECM) and play critical roles in signal transduction, cellular migration, proliferation, survival, and tissue repair. It binds to several ECM proteins containing the RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) motif, including vitronectin and fibronectin. Upregulation of β1 integrins has been linked to poor prognosis in various cancers due to their role in chemoresistance by activating downstream survival pathways upon ligand binding.
