Integrin alphaVbeta8 (αvβ8) is a heterodimeric transmembrane receptor composed of the αv (ITGAV) and β8 (ITGB8) subunits. It belongs to the αv integrin subfamily. Unlike most other integrins, β8 is unique in both structure and function. It primarily binds latent TGF-beta complexes, activating TGF-beta signaling. αvβ8 is expressed in various tissues and plays a role in cell-cell interactions, neurodevelopment, fibrosis and cancer. Antagonists are being developed to block pathological TGF-beta activation in diseases such as cancer.
