Integrin subunit alpha 1, also known as CD49a, forms part of the integrin family of cell surface receptors that mediate cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) and cell-cell interactions. Specifically, integrin alpha-1 pairs with the beta-1 subunit to form the α1β1 integrin heterodimeric receptor. It acts as a receptor for collagens and laminins, playing a role in cell adhesion, migration, proliferation, and signal transduction. Dysregulation is linked to cancer and inflammatory conditions.
