Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 1 (ICAM-1)

Target
ICAM-1
Molecular classification
Immunoglobulin superfamily, Transmembrane protein, Glycoprotein, Receptor
01

Overview

Intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), also known as CD54, is a cell surface glycoprotein and member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It acts as an adhesion receptor for β2 integrins, facilitating leukocyte rolling and transmigration. ICAM-1 participates in intracellular signaling pathways and contributes to immunological synapse formation. It also serves as an entry receptor for certain pathogens. Soluble ICAM-1 (sICAM-1) can modulate leukocyte binding. ICAM-1 is implicated in numerous pathological conditions and serves as a marker for inflammation.
