Interferon alpha 2 (IFNα2)

Target
IFNα2
Molecular classification
Cytokine, Type I Interferon
01

Overview

Interferon alpha2 (IFNα2) is a cytokine belonging to the type I interferon family. It is produced and secreted by cells, particularly leukocytes, in response to viral infection. IFNα2 plays a crucial role in the innate immune response by inhibiting viral replication and modulating immune cell activity.

Mechanism of action

Binds type I interferon receptors (IFNAR1 and IFNAR2) → activates JAK/STAT pathway → induces expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) leading to antiviral state and immunomodulation.
