Interferon alpha 22, pseudogene (IFNA22P)

Target
IFNA22P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Member of the type I interferon alpha family (as a non-functional copy)
01

Overview

Interferon alpha 22, pseudogene (IFNA22P) is a non-coding genetic locus present in the human genome within the type I interferon cluster, most notably on chromosome 9. Unlike protein-coding interferon alpha genes, IFNA22P does not produce a functional interferon alpha protein and does not participate in canonical biological processes such as antiviral defense or immune modulation. As a pseudogene, IFNA22P has no direct role in disease, therapeutic mechanisms, or drug interactions, and it should not be considered a therapeutic target in drug discovery or biomedical research. Sometimes pseudogenes are investigated for regulatory or evolutionary roles, but there is no evidence suggesting IFNA22P has any such established function in humans.
