Overview

Interferon alpha inducible protein 27 like 1 (IFI27L1) is a small, hydrophobic protein localized to the mitochondrial membrane and encoded by the IFI27L1 gene in humans[1][3]. Its expression is highly upregulated in response to type I interferons and viral infection and is involved in cellular responses such as induction of apoptosis and modulation of immune activity[1][2][3]. IFI27L1 is predicted to act as a molecular adaptor and participates in apoptotic pathways. It interacts with various proteins involved in RNA binding and translation, including PKR and PACT, and may influence stress granule formation and innate antiviral defense mechanisms[2]. While closely related to IFI27, IFI27L1 exhibits distinct biological activity and disease associations, notably nemaline myopathy 10[3].
