Interferon beta is a type I interferon cytokine with immunomodulatory properties, primarily used to treat multiple sclerosis. It acts by binding to IFNAR1 and IFNAR2 receptors, activating the JAK/STAT pathway and inducing the expression of numerous immunomodulatory genes, resulting in reduced inflammation in the central nervous system and prevention of nerve damage.
