Interferon gamma receptor 1 (IFNGR1)

Target
IFNGR1
Molecular classification
Type II cytokine receptors, Receptor, CD119
01

Overview

Interferon gamma receptor 1 (IFNGR1), also known as CD119, is the ligand-binding alpha chain of the heterodimeric interferon-gamma (IFNγ) receptor complex. It is a type II cytokine receptor essential for triggering downstream signaling pathways involved in antimicrobial, antiviral, and antitumor immune responses. Upon binding IFNγ, IFNGR1 initiates a JAK/STAT signaling cascade that activates immune response genes.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; IFNGR1 is the receptor, not the drug. Drugs targeting the IFNGR1 pathway would likely aim to modulate its activity (e.g., agonists to enhance signaling, antagonists to block it).

Safety considerations

Modulation of IFNGR1 signaling can have broad effects on the immune system, potentially leading to autoimmunity or increased susceptibility to other infections.Mutations in IFNGR1 can cause severe immunodeficiency.
