Overview

Interferon induced transmembrane protein 9 pseudogene (IFITM9P) is a human pseudogene belonging to the IFITM (interferon-induced transmembrane) gene family, annotated as ENSG00000213275 and sometimes referred to as lnc-MRGPRF-6[6][4]. Pseudogenes in the IFITM family do not code for functional proteins and generally act as long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs). While related IFITM members (such as IFITM1, IFITM2, IFITM3) encode antiviral membrane proteins involved in innate immunity, IFITM9P itself lacks a protein-coding open reading frame and its functional role is uncharacterized[4][6]. Some IFITM pseudogenes, notably IFITM4P, have been shown to act indirectly as regulatory RNAs affecting immune gene expression, but for IFITM9P, there is no published evidence of a direct biological function, role in disease, or therapeutic targeting. As such, IFITM9P is not considered a receptor, enzyme, or druggable target and has no known relevance as a biomarker or in drug interaction. The inclusion of "lnc-MRGPRF-6" as an alias reflects its annotation as a long noncoding RNA. The gene appears to be properly named and annotated as a pseudogene in public genomic resources, but does not meet the criteria for a therapeutic target[6][4].
