Overview

The "innate killer dendritic cell-like population" refers to a subset of immune cells initially described as possessing both NK cell cytotoxicity and dendritic cell antigen-presenting potential[2][10]. These cells, often termed interferon-producing killer dendritic cells (IKDCs), express surface markers associated with both cell lineages (e.g., B220, NK1.1, CD11c). However, recent research suggests they may represent an activated or precursor state of NK cells rather than a distinct dendritic cell subset[2]. They are capable of producing interferons, mediating cytotoxicity, and may participate in antitumor immune responses, but their exact classification remains contentious. They are not considered classical therapeutic targets but may be relevant for understanding immune cell plasticity in cancer and infection responses. No evidence exists that this is a molecule or receptor in the canonical sense (e.g., a targetable protein or gene); instead, it is an ambiguous and debated cell population[2][10]. If your application requires a molecule or receptor, this entry is not suitable.
