Interferon production stimulation is the process by which cells are induced to synthesize and secrete interferons (IFNs), a family of cytokines essential for antiviral immunity and immune regulation. This process is triggered by recognition of pathogens by host pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), leading to signaling cascades that activate transcription factors, induce IFN gene expression, and initiate the JAK-STAT pathway, resulting in the expression of hundreds of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) with antiviral and immunomodulatory functions.
Stimulation of interferon production involves the activation of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) by pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs). This leads to activation of transcription factors (IRF3, IRF7, NF-κB) and subsequent transcription of interferon genes. Secreted interferons then activate the JAK-STAT pathway, inducing the expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) that mediate antiviral and immunomodulatory effects.
