Interferon regulatory factor 2 (IRF2) is a member of the interferon regulatory factor family of transcription factors. It primarily acts as a repressor that competes with IRF1 to inhibit transcriptional activation of type I interferons (IFN-α and IFN-β) and interferon-inducible genes, although it can also activate transcription of certain genes such as histone H4[2][3][5]. IRF2 contains a conserved N-terminal DNA-binding domain (DBD) that recognizes interferon-stimulated response elements (ISREs) in DNA and a C-terminal domain involved in protein-protein interactions. IRF2 plays a fundamental role in regulating immune responses and has been implicated in the development of cancer and infectious diseases by modulating the expression of genes in the interferon signaling pathway[3][4][2].
