Interferon regulatory factor 2 binding protein 1 (IRF2BP1) is a transcriptional corepressor and probable RING-type E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase. It interacts with transcription factors such as IRF2 via a conserved N-terminal zinc finger and a C-terminal RING domain. IRF2BP1 suppresses gene expression, notably in immediate early response genes such as DUSP1 and ATF3 upon EGF receptor signaling, by a SUMOylation-dependent mechanism. Its loss leads to increased cell proliferation and migration, linking IRF2BP1 to negative regulation of EGF receptor signaling and cell growth. The gene has been implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders and may play a regulatory role, along with related family members, in cancer and inflammation settings. No direct drug interactions or established uses as a clinical biomarker are currently reported[1][3][4].
