Interferon stimulated exonuclease gene 20-like 2 (ISG20L2) is a 3'-5' exoribonuclease involved in the processing and maturation of ribosomal RNA (rRNA), specifically in ribosome biogenesis and the processing of 12S pre-rRNA[4]. It is part of a family of exonucleases that includes ISG20 (interferon-stimulated gene 20). ISG20L2 is structurally and functionally distinct from ISG20: whereas ISG20 is primarily known for its antiviral activity and interferon induction, ISG20L2 appears to play a more central role in cellular RNA metabolism rather than immune defense. There is limited data regarding its disease associations or clinical relevance as a direct therapeutic target. ISG20L2 does not currently have an established role in drug response, nor is it a clinically used biomarker or a common therapeutic target.
