Interferon production is the cellular process by which interferons (IFNs) are synthesized and secreted in response to various stimuli, primarily microbial infections. Interferons play a crucial role in innate and adaptive immunity, mediating antiviral responses, modulating immune cell activity, and influencing inflammation. It is triggered by viral infection, double-stranded RNA, bacterial products, and mitogens/antigens.
