Target intelligence / Profile preview
Interleukin 1 alpha (IL-1α) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine belonging to the interleukin 1 family. It plays a central role in mediating immune and inflammatory responses, as well as hematopoiesis. Both the precursor and mature forms of IL-1α are bioactive, and it can function intracellularly and extracellularly. Due to its potent activity initiating inflammation, dysregulation of IL–l α has been implicated in several major human diseases and is considered an important drug target for anti-inflammatory therapies under development.
