Interleukin 1 Receptor Type I (IL1R1) is a transmembrane receptor that binds interleukin-1α (IL-1α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β). Upon ligand binding, it forms a complex with IL-1RAP (IL-1R3) to activate intracellular signaling pathways, including NF-kappa-B and MAPK, leading to the expression of pro-inflammatory genes. IL1R1 plays a critical role in initiating and amplifying inflammatory responses.
IL-1RA blocks the binding of IL-1α and IL-1β to IL1R1, preventing downstream signaling.
