Target intelligence / Profile preview
Interleukin-11 (IL-11) is a pleiotropic cytokine and a member of the IL-6-type cytokine family. It plays diverse roles across multiple tissues, including hematopoiesis support, inhibition of adipogenesis, regulation of embryo implantation, and modulation of bone metabolism. IL-11 signals via a receptor complex composed of IL-11Rα and the common co-receptor gp130, activating the JAK/STAT3 and MAPK/ERK pathways. Elevated IL-11 activity is implicated in fibro-inflammatory diseases and bone metabolic disorders. Recombinant human IL-11 (Oprelvekin) is used for chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia, but chronic exposure may pose pro-fibrotic risks.
Recombinant human IL-11 stimulates proliferation and maturation of hematopoietic stem cells and megakaryocyte progenitor cells, inducing megakaryocyte maturation
