Interleukin-13 receptor subunit alpha-1 (IL13RA1)

Target
IL13RA1
Molecular classification
Receptor, Cytokine receptor, Membrane protein, Member of the IL-2 receptor family
01

Overview

Interleukin-13 receptor subunit alpha-1 (IL13RA1) is a transmembrane cytokine receptor that binds interleukin-13 (IL-13) with low affinity and, together with the IL-4 receptor alpha (IL4RA) subunit, forms a functional receptor complex for both IL-4 and IL-13. This receptor is pivotal in mediating pro-inflammatory signaling in immune cells through activation of the JAK/STAT pathway, especially STAT6, and is involved in regulating inflammatory and immune responses. Its expression is associated with modulation of airway inflammation (e.g., asthma), allergic conditions, and some cancers, and targeting this molecule is a subject of therapeutic investigation notably in allergy, asthma, and oncology.

05

Safety considerations

Suppressing IL-13 signaling may impair host defense, particularly against parasitic infections and some immune challenges.Potential risk of immunosuppression.Balancing therapeutic impact and immune homeostasis is critical.
