The Interleukin 13 (IL-13) signaling pathway is a critical immune regulatory mechanism primarily involved in allergic inflammation, asthma, and tissue remodeling. IL-13 binds to its receptor complex (Type II IL-4 receptor or IL-13Rα2), activating downstream signaling cascades primarily through the JAK/STAT pathway, leading to the regulation of genes involved in IgE synthesis, mucus production, airway hyperresponsiveness, and fibrosis. The decoy receptor IL-13Rα2 can also modulate the pathway. Therapeutic interventions targeting this pathway aim to reduce these pathological effects in diseases like asthma and atopic dermatitis.
