The Interleukin 15 receptor alpha chain (IL-15Rα), also known as CD215, is a high-affinity binding subunit of the interleukin-15 (IL-15) receptor complex. IL-15Rα plays a central role in mediating the biological activities of IL-15, particularly in immune cell development and function. The primary function of IL‑15Rα is not only as part of a signaling complex but also as a presenter ("trans-presentation").
Targeting or harnessing this axis has become an area for cancer immunotherapy research. Blocking overactive signaling may be relevant in autoimmune/inflammatory diseases where excessive NK/T-cell activity contributes pathology.
