Overview
The IL-15/IL-15Rα complex is a high-affinity cytokine-receptor pair crucial for immune regulation, particularly in NK cells and memory CD8+ T cells. IL-15 binds to IL-15Rα, and this complex typically trans-presents to neighboring cells expressing the IL-2/IL-15Rβ and common γ chains, triggering downstream signaling cascades and promoting lymphocyte survival, proliferation, and activation. Engineered superagonist forms are under investigation as cancer immunotherapeutics. Soluble forms may have application in autoimmune diseases.
