Interleukin 15 Receptor Beta Subunit (IL15RB)

Target
IL15RB
Molecular classification
Receptor, Type I membrane protein
01

Overview

The interleukin 15 receptor beta subunit (IL15RB), also known as the interleukin 2 receptor beta chain (IL2RB) and CD122, is a type I membrane protein and a shared signaling component for both the interleukin 2 (IL-2) and interleukin 15 (IL-15) receptors. It plays a crucial role in mediating immune responses, particularly those involving T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. Activation via this receptor complex increases proliferation, especially among CD8+ effector T-cells and NK-cells, key players in anti-tumor immunity and viral defense responses. The receptor exists as part of heterotrimeric complexes, using distinct alpha chains for cytokine specificity but the same beta (IL15RB/CD122) and gamma common (γc) chains for signal transduction.
