Interleukin-15 receptor subunit alpha (IL-15Rα)

Target
IL-15Rα
Molecular classification
Receptor, Cytokine Receptor, Type I cytokine receptor
01

Overview

Interleukin-15 receptor subunit alpha (IL-15Rα) is a high-affinity receptor subunit that specifically binds to IL-15. It forms a heterotrimeric receptor complex with IL-2/IL-15Rβ (CD122) and the common γ chain (γc, CD132), which is essential for IL-15 signaling. IL-15Rα plays a crucial role in the proliferation and survival of memory CD8+ T-cells, the development and function of NK cells, NKT cells, and intraepithelial lymphocytes. Its unique sushi domain allows for extremely high-affinity binding to IL-15, making it an attractive therapeutic target for modulating immune responses in diseases such as cancer and autoimmunity. It can present IL-15 in cis or in trans.
