Overview

Interleukin-17A (IL-17A) and Interleukin-17F (IL-17F) are closely related pro-inflammatory cytokines belonging to the interleukin 17 family. Both are primarily produced by T helper 17 (Th17) cells, but can also be secreted by a variety of other immune and non-immune cell types. They function as disulfide-linked homodimers or as an IL‑17A/IL‑17F heterodimer, signaling through the IL-17RA/IL-17RC receptor complex to induce the production of pro-inflammatory mediators, recruit neutrophils, maintain tissue barriers, and contribute to tissue remodeling. Dysregulation of IL-17A and IL-17F is associated with various chronic immune-mediated inflammatory diseases.

Mechanism of action

Monoclonal antibodies that bind to IL-17A, IL-17F, or the IL-17 receptor, thereby blocking their interaction with the receptor and inhibiting downstream signaling pathways.
