Interleukin 17A Receptor Subunit A (IL-17RA)

Target
IL-17RA
Molecular classification
Cytokine receptor, Type I transmembrane protein, Interleukin receptor
01

Overview

Interleukin 17A receptor subunit A (IL-17RA) is a transmembrane protein that serves as the primary receptor for interleukin-17A (IL-17A), a proinflammatory cytokine. IL-17RA is the founding member of the IL-17 receptor family. Upon ligand binding (IL-17A or IL-17F), IL-17RA forms a heteromeric complex (typically with IL-17RC or IL-17RD), leading to activation of intracellular signaling pathways and the production of pro-inflammatory mediators. It plays a crucial role in host defense and the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory diseases.

Mechanism of action

Blocking the interaction of IL-17A with its receptor IL-17RA, thereby inhibiting downstream signaling pathways like NFκB and MAPK, and reducing the production of pro-inflammatory mediators.
