The Interleukin 17AF (IL-17AF) complex is a heterodimeric cytokine composed of IL-17A and IL-17F, primarily produced by Th17 cells. It binds to the IL-17RA/IL-17RC receptor complex, inducing pro-inflammatory responses by activating NF-kB and stabilizing mRNA. IL-17AF plays a role in host defense against extracellular pathogens but is also implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Its activity lies intermediate between IL-17A and IL-17F homodimers, and it is a target for therapeutic antibodies in conditions like psoriasis and spondyloarthritis.
IL-17AF binds to the IL-17RA/IL-17RC receptor complex, activating downstream signaling pathways including NF-kB and mRNA stabilization, leading to pro-inflammatory gene expression and chemokine production.
