Interleukin 17C (IL-17C) is a cytokine belonging to the IL-17 family, primarily produced by epithelial cells. It plays a crucial role in mucosal immunity, inflammation, and autoimmune disease by maintaining epithelial barrier integrity, inducing antimicrobial peptides, and promoting the recruitment of immune effector cells. It signals through a heterodimeric receptor complex of IL-17RA and IL-17RE.
