Overview
Interleukin 17F (IL-17F) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine belonging to the interleukin 17 family. It is primarily produced by T helper 17 (Th17) cells and plays a central role in host defense against extracellular bacteria and fungi by inducing neutrophil recruitment and activation at sites of infection or inflammation. IL-17F is implicated in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel disease. It signals through a heterodimeric receptor complex composed of IL-17RA and IL-17RC, activating downstream pathways including NF-kB and MAPK.
