Interleukin-2 mRNA is the messenger RNA transcript synthesized from the IL2 gene, which encodes the interleukin-2 protein (IL-2), a cytokine critical for immune cell proliferation and regulation. In physiology, IL-2 mRNA is produced by activated T lymphocytes, and its transcription, stability, and splicing are tightly regulated to ensure appropriate immune response. While aberrant mRNA regulation may impact immune function, "interleukin-2 mRNA" is not itself a primary drug or therapeutic target; rather, the IL-2 protein or its receptor complexes are the focus of immunomodulatory drugs in oncology and autoimmune diseases[1][9][13]. Interleukin-2 mRNA is sometimes measured as a molecular biomarker of T cell activation in research, but therapeutic interventions act on the cytokine or its receptor, not the mRNA[4][14].
