Interleukin 2 Receptor Beta (IL2RB)

Target
IL2RB
Molecular classification
Type I membrane protein, Receptor, Cytokine receptor subunit
01

Overview

Interleukin 2 receptor beta (IL2RB) is a type I membrane protein that forms part of the interleukin-2 receptor complex. It plays a central role in T cell-mediated immune responses and exists in three forms with varying affinities for its ligand, interleukin 2 (IL-2). The β and γ chains are responsible for signal transduction; the α chain increases ligand binding affinity but does not participate in signaling. Additionally, this protein also serves as one of three subunits forming the functional interleukin‑15 receptor. Mutations or defects in IL2RB can cause severe immune dysregulation. Soluble forms or altered levels have been linked to disease severity in conditions like COVID‐19 and abdominal aortic aneurysms.
